Question #1:

Female British idols from World War Two?

Basically, I am making a magazine at school for history from the world war two period, and need a person to go on the cover and have a section on them.
The magazine is aimed at families, so if anyone has any ideas for the person that would be good. (:
Also, any other ideas for articles or ads or stuff would be good too :)

Question #2:

How many Blacks would remain Democrats if they knew their partys oldest leader was a former leader in the KKK?

Sen. Robert Byrd, D-WV, has said repeatedly over the years that he joined the notorious anti-black hate group the Ku Klux Klan during World War II - not because he was a racist - but because the Klan had taken a strong stance against communism, a system of government that then existed only in the Soviet Union.

But Byrd's KKK alibi doesn't stand up to even the most cursory historical scrutiny, as a World War II veteran pointed out to NewsMax.com Wednesday.

"When Byrd said he joined the Klan, it couldn't have been famous for being anti-Communist, since in 1943 the Soviet Union was our crucial ally in World War II," said our source, who served in Air Force, then known as the Army Air Corps, in preparation for the Normandy invasion.

"In 1943 Franklin Roosevelt was still calling Stalin 'Uncle Joe'," he added. "And I remember U.S. military maps that showed the Red Army's advances toward Berlin, which was something we were all happy about."

Further puncturing Sen. Byrd's KKK alibi, the World War II vet recalled, "There would have been no reason for any patriotic American to have been anti-Communist in 1943 - because we were doing everything we could to help the Reds beat Hitler on the Eastern Front."

Question #3:

Why do so many people protest "bring the soldiers home"?

given the fact that every single one of those soldiers joined on their own accord.

So they ask "bring the soldiers home" so that people remain soldiers, and still get paid instead of "don't join the military" in the first place?

Doesn't make sense. They want to FORCE the government to do something, instead of having the individuals controlled by the government cut out the middle man and just NOT JOIN?

Somebody explain.

Why aren't more people protesting "don't join the military" like Albert Einstein did? BTW, his famous quote "the pioneers of a war less world are the young men who refuse military service".

Question #4:

World war 2 movies based on events outside of Europe and U.S.?

I'm interested in watching ww2 movies from other countries that were involved. Japan and China, or Russia and Finland for example. They would obviously need subtitles, and do not have to be hollywood movies. Thank you in advance.

Question #5:

I want to educate myself in history -- where do I start?

I am fascinated by every time in history: the Byzantines, the Greeks, the Egyptians, all the way up to the Edwardian era, Victorian era, and the World Wars. Not only is the history of the world interesting to me but also the history of things, such as the history of music, literature, philosophy, etc. Now, the problem is, since I have so much time on my hands and a lot of space in my bookshelf to spare, I can't bring myself to start somewhere. I am passionate about learning, and one of the reasons I'm motivated to delve into this subject is because I am sadly uninformed on a lot of major events in time, and am tired of feeling inferior when I am around cultured people at the dinner table. So, do I just start at any point in time, and go up and go down however I fancy? Or is it better to start way back from the beginning and work my way up all the way to recent events?

Question #6:

point,aim,and shoot at someone
I'm tired of the madness that the world has become
people afraid to walk outside in broad daylight
and on the other side of the world people are denied their rights
because they are a different race, sex or ethnicity
what have we learned throughout history?
apperantly not much, because it still happens
The only way we can teach people is through rapping
@YouDontKnowRap Yeah I have countless times and no i don't want to die.

Question #7:

Question #8:

Is the game Call of Duty World At War: Nazi Zombies for the PS3?

Question #9:

what right does israel have to put settlements in th West Bank?

Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War states in the first paragraph: “Individual or mass forcible transfers, as well as deportations of protected persons from occupied territory to the territory of the Occupying Power or to that of any other country, occupied or not, are prohibited, regardless of their motive.”
And in the sixth paragraph: “The Occupying Power shall not deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies.”

According to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), this sub-article was intended “… to prevent a practice adopted during the Second World War by certain Powers, which transferred portions of their own population to occupied territory for political and racial reasons or in order, as they claimed, to colonize those territories. Such transfers worsened the economic situation of the native population and endangered their separate existence as a race.”

United Nations Security Council Resolution 446, on March 22, 1979, determined “that the policy and practices of Israel in establishing settlements in the Palestinian and other Arab territories occupied since 1967 have no legal validity and constitute a serious obstruction to achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East.”

An advisory opinion by the International Court of Justice in 2004, addressing the West Bank barrier in particular and the West Bank itself in general, concluded “that the Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (including East Jerusalem) have been established in breach of international law.”

Question #12:

What is "simple english"?

Ok, so I was on Wikipedia; I was looking up world war II and it gave me 2 options of how I could view the article in english: "English" or "simple english". I was wondering what simple english is and what it is used for. When I clicked on the simple english article, it was shorter and briefer without as many big words. The regular english was more complicated though.
So is simple english for kids or people who don't have an advanced vocabulary or something? What is it?

Question #13:

What is your view on this topic? Any helpful ideas? Time to debate!?

Hi,
I am writing an essay proposing this motion "I would assassinate dictators" & need some ideas for it. Here are some points for it I have thought of:
Explain threefold objection to dictators:
1. That they abuse their power
2. That this is far more dangerous in today' world than in the past.
3. That such power offends people's right to self government/democracy.

Also, any info on any 2 brutally repressive regimes (cambodia in 1970's maybe) & how the present regime in N.Korea could spark a third world war.
Any ideas/thought/comments would be very much appreciated.

Question #15:

Is the whole Haiti "We are the world" song overrated?

Dont you find it ironic how politics work... one density independent, non man made event that happens every year for the past millions of years to Haiti... earthquake and the whole world is disastrous and they make a We are the world for them.... while children in Gaza are getting killed and gassed in all dimension...talk about holocaust...

I mean ok the haiti thing I agree was horrible and its very very very very sad but really?! We want to change because one earthquake hit? 2 billion other people are also living in misery and wars and while being aware of other events happening as well and all deaths are bad does it give the world the right to just ignore the Palestinians? aren't they people too? and please if you are going to comment on Palestinians please read other sources besides Fox and CNN, BBC maybe? please...get the true facts and make YOUR opinion, not bull***tted facts the gov's shove down our throats
K some guy just removed his comment but he was saying just rememeber 9/11...do u know how pathetic that is? Fine 3000 ppl died but do we get the real statistics? why did they manage to identify 2750 ppl but not the other 50? and do u all know that 9/11 is begining to become very controversial and its all a big lie and a pretext to attack the middle east? ARent the ppl in middle east humans too? they hve opinions and yes killing is not an answer but they've built so much frustration because america keeps on bullshitting their way as international police of the world.. they should stop!

Question #16:

I welcome everyone, particularly religious minded to post your thoughts.?

Coming from a medical background, and knowing more than your average joe about the mind, I find it very interesting that the method of "religion" is used as a coping tool by the vast majority.

Put simply, when a child breaks his mother's vase, he blames his imaginary friend.
When humans wage war for 2000 years and bomb and kill and destroy and pollute the world, they blame it on the devil, and wait for God to fix their mess. Is it just me or does anyone else see the similarities between the two circumstances?

My question is, when will people stop blaming "deities" and "gods/devils" and start acting like bloody adults and work together to fix this mess so we have an earth to pass on to our kids?

And, because I know there will be tons of religious individuals posting their bible scriptures on here, I will say this... The end result for just about every religion under the sun, is their "God" winning, and solving all their problems, assuming they are faithful. Don't bother posting that garbage please. I want adults with an acceptance of responsibility to post, not some immature children blaming it on their invisible friends.
I hardly find myself ranting at all, I was simply asking a question, why is it that all religion refuses to accept the problem, and deal with it rather then blame higher powers? Because you my little friend cannot answer this question, you attack me personally. Very mature kid.

Question #17:

Do you think that China will make the same mistake as Japan did in the 80s?

Japan experienced rapid economic growth, which was referred to as the Japanese post-war economic miracle. With average growth rates of 10% in the 1960s, 5% in the 1970s, and 4% in the 1980s Japan was able to establish itself as the world's second largest economy. However, in the second half of the 1980’s sliding stock and real estate prices caused the Japanese economy to overheat in what was later to be known as the Japanese asset price bubble. The ‘’bubble economy’’ came to an abrupt end as the Tokyo Stock Exchange crashed in 1989.

Doesn't this sound a bit like China today?
Since the late 1980s, China also has been growing at a rate around 8-10% annually and there has been several talks of a bubble bursting in China.

Question #18:

How many people will leave the country.?

Labour the party of the highest taxation this country has ever seen, and the largest debt in this country's history. If Labour win the next election, how many people with money will be leaving the country as they did in the 70's?
How anyone can give Labour another term to complete sending this country to a third world status, beggars belief. Come on all you older pensioners, as you did in the 2nd world war, save this country once again, this time by voting against Labour. We cannot allow the businesses and money to go abroad even more.

Question #19:

Could you be sent home during World War 2 for being shot?

I am doing a film and I was curious if there was an easy way to leave the war.

Question #20:

Democracy is an illusion, do you agree ?

Democracy: a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections.

Now... We have that system of representation... But it's obvious that governments elected into power, give greater credence to the opinion of foreign governments as well as Multi National Organizations.

The World Majority, as well as national majority of all participating nations opposed the war in Iraq, Afghanistan.. And just last year the War crime committed by Israeli Defence forces against the Palestinian people in Gaza... Yet there was no halt and is no halt to the ongoing brutality despite each nations people opposing to it...

So where is our power ? because at the moment, the multinational corporations, Western Governments and Corrupt leaders are profiting whilst over a million people have lost their lives...

The people have no voice, we live in a world riddled with debt, suffering, and inhumane support for Criminal regimes (Israel) even though we have a solution to all these problems. The truth has become the strangest thing...

Are we really a democratic nation ???

Can a nation be democratic if the people are not informed of the true practices of ones own government ? (USA, Aus, Britain, France, Germany etc.)
